was a 1200xl, bought waaaaay back in 1984, January 4th. I still have it too. Well, shell only. The computer itself died years ago, so I gutted it out and I have the case mounted on the wall as a piece of art.

I'm trying to repair my friends system. The power light goes on, but it doesn't put out a video signal... I'm baffled! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I've spent a billion hours of my life programming
on my old atari 800 long long ago.
Now I'm trying to look at some of my old disks and
don't remember the commands to access the floppy
disk drive.

Anybody know how it goes? I think it starts with "LOAD"...

Thanks!!!!!

My paddles are broken. I tried the cleaning procedure and they went from jumpy to deceased. I'd love to hear that you were able to buy new resistors at an electronics store, or offer me some working paddles for a reasonable price-- I can't live without video olympics!

On the happy tip, though, a friend found an Atari trackball in the street and gave it to me this week and now Missle Command is in full rocking effect-- what other games are good with the trackball?

Ahhh.. the old Atari 8-bits..

Remember writing an Assembly Poker/BlackJack game during the startup of "Desert Shield".. it was already too much too late as the 8-bit console was already on its way out..

It had taken me months, but I had a program that ran 3 HSync interrupts during the VBlank interval. It was crazy, spending weeks to write code that executed in less than a quarter of a second.. those were the days. I have not gotten into "guts level" programming since. The Atari 8-bit console was ahead of anything else on the market, but wasted their headstart on mismanagement.. Its a damn shame.

man, I love 'em. well, used to. I haven't used them in a few years, but for a *very* long time, I held on to my ataris to do music. up until like 1999.

I still actually own three of them -- a 1040ST, a MegaSTE (really nice), and a STacy (portable!).

I learned about computers on Atari 400s and 800s (basic and logo) back in 1980 at "computer camp" in Santa Barbara. Lot's of nostalgia for those days.
